First tests on optimizing loading zone utilization

At thinkport VIENNA at the Port of Vienna, the first tests were carried out on the mobile detection of free loading zones and parking areas.
Background of this action: within the framework of the project SCHNURRR a flexible and temporarily usable system for this recording shall be developed.

Delivery traffic and loading activities in urban areas often present the participants with great challenges: on the one hand, there is the often tedious search for a free loading zone and the associated avoidable travel times and distances. On the other hand, there is the obstruction of traffic by delivery vehicles blocking a lane because they have not found a free loading zone.
If the drivers now received information about free spaces, the loading zones could be used more efficiently and search times could be reduced. The (online available) real-time data about occupancy also would support well-founded planning of new parking spaces as well as the prognosis of availability

In the coming months, the system will be further developed and subjected to further practical testing in a real environment in Vienna.

In co-operation with STADT WIEN, Wirtschaftskammer Wien, thinkport VIENNA EBE SOLUTIONS and Parkbob.

The project SCHNURRR is funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG and the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology within the framework of the "Mobility of the Future" funding programme.
